# Escrow vs Open Source Difference

Overview This document contains information about all products sold on IzzyShop. We have prepared some guides to help you get started with our product quickly and easily.

## Important Information

<mark style="color:$info;">In escrow-protected scripts, the main code files are encrypted; however, config.lua, framework settings, language files and similar configuration files are always left open (editable). Even after placing the script in escrow, you can still change settings specific to your server via the config file.</mark>

## Open Source vs Escrow: Know Before You Buy

<mark style="color:$info;">At IzzyShop, you can find both open-source and escrow-protected FiveM scripts. Each type has its own unique advantages and limitations. We recommend that you review the differences below before deciding which one to purchase.</mark>

### What is an open-source script?

<mark style="color:$info;">Open-source scripts are products that allow you to access the full source code and freely modify it once purchased. They are suitable for developers who wish to make customisations to their server.</mark><br>

Advantages

* 🔓 Full code access — You can view and edit all files.
* 🛠️ Unlimited customisation — You can tailor the script from start to finish to suit your server.

### What is an Escrow-Protected Script?

<mark style="color:$info;">Escrow-protected scripts are encrypted using the FiveM Escrow System. The source code is protected and the script will only run on your licensed server.</mark>

* 🔐 Secure usage — Your script cannot be stolen or shared by others.
* 🔄 Regular updates — As the script remains intact, new versions and bug fixes are easier to implement.
* 📋 Fair licensing — Each purchase is tied to a single server; unauthorised use is prevented.
* ⚙️ Configuration files are yours — you can edit the config.lua file, framework settings and language files yourself. Changes to items such as price, job title and notification text are usually made via the config.

### Escrowed Files

| What can you edit? | Open? | Example |
| ----------------------------- | ----- | ------------------------------------------ |
| Prices, salaries, durations | Yes ✅ | Economy settings from config |
| Framework (ESX, QBCore, etc.) | Yes ✅ | Choose the framework that fits your server |
| Notification and menu texts | Yes ✅ | Translate via `locales` files |
| Enable / disable features | Yes ✅ | Turn systems on or off from config |
| Main script logic | ❌ No | Locked, cannot be edited |

Summary: With the Escrow script, you manage your server via configuration files. You make changes to the configuration files rather than to the script itself. For most server owners, this is sufficient.

### What’s the difference for players?

<mark style="color:$info;">From the player’s perspective, there is generally no noticeable difference. Whether it is a well-structured escrow script or an open-source script, it works in exactly the same way for the player. The difference lies in the extent to which the server owner can intervene behind the scenes — not in the menus, professions, systems or screens that the player sees.</mark>

* 🎮 The gaming experience remains the same for the player
* 💬 You can localise texts and notifications into Turkish via the config
* 🔒 The risk of fraud or piracy is lower with escrow scripts
* ⚙️ Sunucunuza uygun ayarları kendiniz yapabilirsiniz

### Which one should I buy?

| Your situation | Recommendation |
| ----------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------- |
| I want to fully customize my server myself | Open Source |
| I want a secure, up-to-date script with support | Escrow Protected |
| I only want to change prices, jobs, texts, etc. | Escrow is enough |
| I run multiple servers | Check the license terms on the product page |

On every product page at IzzyShop, the script type is clearly stated. If you’re unsure, drop us a message on Discord and we’ll advise you based on your server.

### What is FiveM Escrow?

* In the escrow scripts, the game’s main files are locked. However, the config.lua file, framework settings and language files are accessible to you — you can use these to configure settings specific to your server.
* The escrow scripts on IzzyShop are licensed through FiveM’s official protection system. The script you purchase will only run on your server. No one else can steal the script and use it on their own server. This protects both you and the team that created the script.

### What can you do as a server owner?

* ✅ You can install the script on your server
* ✅ You can change the settings via config.lua
* ✅ You can configure settings according to your framework (ESX, QBCore, etc.)
* ✅ You can localise notification and menu texts into Turkish
* ✅ You can enable or disable features via the config file
* ❌ You cannot edit the script’s locked files

In other words, there’s nothing stopping you from using the escrow script — you just can’t tamper with the script’s code. You still manage your own server settings.

### How do I install it?

1. Download the script - After purchase, download the files from the Tebex or IzzyShop panel.
2. Upload to your server - Place the script in the resources folder.
3. Edit the config - Configure the config.lua file according to your server — framework, prices, job titles, etc.
4. Start the server - Add `ensure script_name` to the server.cfg file and restart the server.
5. Test in-game - Check that the script is working and that your settings are reflected correctly.

### Frequently Asked Questions

1. Expandable

* Can I use the script on another server? No. The script only works on your licensed server. If you have another server, you will need to purchase a separate licence for that server.
* Can’t I change anything at all? No, that’s not the case. You cannot modify the locked section of the script, but you can adjust many settings yourself via the config files, such as prices, text, framework, and enabling/disabling features.
* Will players notice any difference? No. Whether it’s Escrow or open source makes no difference — the script works the same way for the player if it’s set up correctly. The only difference lies in how much the server owner can intervene behind the scenes.
* What can I change in the config? Job titles, prices, salaries, durations, notification texts, framework selection, and the enabling or disabling of many features. Each script’s config is different; please refer to the documentation on the product page.
* Does my licence expire after a certain period? No. The script you purchase is yours for life. If the FiveM system is updated, the licensing method may change; in which case, we will notify you.

If you get stuck, drop us a line on the IzzyShop Discord server — we’ll help you with the setup and configuration.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://izzyshop-1.gitbook.io/izzyshop-docs/escrow-or-open.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
